Cowley announces August Athletes of the Month

Helping their teams compete for national titles, a pair of returning sophomores, Santiago Nunez-Gonzalez and Rachele Tessari, were named the August Cowley College Male and Female Athletes of the Month.

Running for the defending national champion Cowley College, men's cross country team, Santiago Nunez-Gonzalez is a returning All-Conference, All-Region, and All-American selection. The talented sophomore also excels on the track as he was a national qualifier in the indoor 3,000 and 5,000-meter runs and outdoor 5,000-meter run and 3,000-meter steeplechase as a freshman.

Nunez-Gonzalez, who came to Cowley from Garden City, KS, is an Associate of Science major and has a grade point average of 3.31.

Not to be outdone, Rachele Tessari, from Italy, has the Lady Tiger volleyball team currently unbeaten (11-0) after finishing as the national runner-up a season ago. The Cowley volleyball team has won 52 of the 53 matches Tessari has played in during her two seasons at the school.

Tessari became the fourth player in the program's history to be named the NJCAA Offensive Player of the Week. The 2021 volleyball All-American currently leads the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference in aces per set and is second on the team in digs and third in kills.

Tessari is an Associate of Arts major with a GPA of 3.31.
