Joining a Cowley College baseball team that had never won 30 games in the first 22 years of the program’s existence, helped the Tigers win 70 games and capture their first-ever conference title in his two years at the school. The shortstop/third baseman will be honored for his accomplishments when he is inducted into the Tiger Athletic Hall of Fame.

Anglen was born in Claremore, OK and moved to Sperry, Oklahoma in 1987. He helped the Sperry High School baseball team make four trips to the state tournament and capture the state title during the 1990 season.

At Sperry, he was an all-conference baseball and basketball player. He jumped at the chance to play baseball at Cowley after being recruited by Tiger baseball coaches Dave and Darren Burroughs.

“I just wanted a chance to play college ball and felt Cowley was a good fit for me,” Anglen said. “I loved what the coaches stood for.”

At Cowley, Anglen played both shortstop and third base. He batted .402 as a freshman and was named a Pre-season All-American prior to his sophomore season. He batted .420 as a sophomore, while earning all-conference honors both years at the school.

“I absolutely loved Cowley,” Anglen said. “I loved the way they taught me to play tough, hard-nosed baseball. The Burroughs’ brothers made me a strong, hungry kid. I love them both.”

The 1992 team won a then school-record 36 games, while going 36-16 and captured a share of its first-ever Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division title. The 1993 team followed up that success by going 34-18 and placing second in the conference.

“As a player and student Cowley was perfect for me,” Anglen said. “They were two of the best years of my life. The student life at Cowley was a good fit for a small town country kid and baseball taught me many life lessons and the value of hard work.”

After Cowley, Anglen signed to play baseball at NCAA Division I Arkansas State University. He continued his success for the Red Wolves as he earned all-conference and all-region honors both years at the school.

At the conclusion of the 1995 season, Anglen was drafted by Major League Baseball’s Atlanta Braves. He spent a couple of years playing professional baseball in the Braves minor league system before stepping away from the game.

Following his playing days he began coaching youth baseball and began a Youth Baseball Organization called Next Level Baseball.

He and his wife, Brandie, have two daughters, Taylor and Rylee, and a son, Maddox. They currently reside in Skiatook, OK.

Anglen is looking forward to being back on campus and to be joining an elite group of individuals in the Tiger Athletic Hall of Fame.

“I am absolutely blown away by this honor,” Anglen said. “Outside of being drafted into Major League Baseball this is the greatest accomplishment of my baseball career. It takes you back just to realize the men and women who are in the Hall of Fame and what they have done in life. I am very humbled and honored to be in the Tiger Athletic Hall of Fame.”
