Tiger soccer team drops second straight game

After winning 11 of its first 12 games, the No. 8-ranked Cowley College men's soccer team dropped its second straight contest in a 2-1 loss at Coffeyville Community College on Saturday.

The defeat came on the heels of a 1-0 loss at Dodge City, as the Tigers are now 11-3 overall and 7-3 in the Jayhawk Conference. Cowley remains one point in front of Barton County for first place in the conference, with an important game between the two teams scheduled for Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Arkansas City.

On Saturday, Coffeyville's Daisuke Shinko headed in a pair of goals off corner kicks in the game's final 20 minutes, the last one breaking a 1-1 tie with four minutes remaining in regulation. The second goal for Shinko was even more frustrating, considering it came with the Red Ravens playing with a man short.

Cowley's goal came from Carlos Noboa with 14:22 left to play. The goal for Noboa was his fourth of the season.

The Tigers will look to snap its skid when they host No. 5-ranked Barton County on Wednesday. The Cougars (11-1-3) defeated Cowley 3-1 on September 16 in Great Bend. Barton County is 6-1-2 in the conference.
