Tiger tennis teams pick up huge road wins at Seward County
Playing region rival Seward County Thursday in Liberal, KS, the Cowley College men and women's tennis teams picked up important 6-3 wins over the Saints.
The Tiger men moved up to No. 2 in the national rankings following the match and the Lady Tiger women's tennis team moved up to No. 4 in the national rankings. Both Tiger tennis teams won two of three doubles matches and four of six singles matches in the wins over Seward.
"I am very proud of the teams and excited because it is an important win for us," Cowley head coach Manuel Raga said. "Both the men and women were ready mentally and physically to go out there and compete hard."
Tiger sophomore Jack Clements again came away with an impressive win at No. 1 singles and teamed with Takeshi Taco to win at No. 1 doubles.
On the women's side, Ane Ibarra continues to dominate at No. 6 singles and at No. 3 doubles with Andrea Rodriguez.
The loss was just the second of the season for the Seward men's team, which entered the match ranked second nationally. The Seward women are now ranked sixth.
The Tiger tennis teams will now prepare to play at NCAA Division II Washburn University Wednesday at 1 p.m. in Topeka, KS.
"Both of our teams this year are special in many ways, but the most important aspect is that they want to win so bad," Raga said.
