Andres-Dougan breaks own school-record as Tigers get in final tune-up

With the conference and region championships less than a week away, the nationally ranked Cowley College men and women's outdoor track and field teams got in a final tune-up by competing at the Southwestern College Relays Saturday in Winfield, KS. Once again, the Tiger men were led by sophomore Diego Andres-Dougan breaking his own school-record in the 110-meter hurdles.

Andres Dougan placed first with a time of 14.81 in the 110-meter hurdles, while also winning the triple jump (48-0).

"Diego is a very good athlete that puts the work in practice to be great," Cowley head coach Cameron Rieth said. "Overall, the meet was a good tune-up before the region and conference championship season."

Tiger pole vaulters, Luke Faulkner and Arantxa Cortez placed first at the meet, and Cowley won six events.

"Our pole vault performance is a testament to what coach Parker Ray is doing with these athletes," Rieth said. "At Cowley we kind of hang our hat on being good in the pole vault."

Other first place finishers for the Tigers were the Cowley men's 4x200-meter relay team and the women's 4x100-meter relay team.

The Cowley College men and women's outdoor track and field teams will now turn its attention to competing at the Region VI/Jayhawk Conference Championships held Thursday through Saturday in Garden City, KS.

"We want to put our best foot forward and compete well despite whatever weather challenges we may face in Garden City," Rieth said. "We hope to bring back some hardware."
