Glenwood Edwards Jr. begins his seventh season as an assistant coach/throws coach for the Tiger men and women’s track and field teams.
Edwards helped Cowley capture men and women’s outdoor track and field conference titles during the 2022 and 2023 season. Coached Chloe Wilson (2021-2022) and Trevor Green (2022-2023) to a national title in the hammer throw. As to date, Coach Edwards has coached 58 National Qualifiers, 28 All-Americans, 2 National Champions and 4 National Runner-Ups.
Edwards Jr. graduated from Lansdowne High School in Baltimore County, Maryland in 2003. At Lansdowne he was a state champion in the shot put.
He went on to earn a scholarship to compete at Jayhawk Conference school Barton County Community College. At Barton he was a part of two national indoor team championships and one outdoor national championship.
Edwards Jr. was a two-time Region VI indoor champion in the shot put and finished as the national runner-up in the shot put at the 2005 outdoor national championships. He finished his time at Barton as a two-time junior college All-American in the shot put.
After graduating from Barton he earned a scholarship to compete for the University of Memphis where he made an immediate impact by winning the Conference USA men's indoor shot put title his first season. Edwards Jr. successfully defended his title in 2008 becoming a repeat champion. He qualified for NCAA Mid East Regionals in the shot put in 2007 posting a season-best 17.10 meters.
He finished his two years at Memphis as a two-time region qualifier and was the indoor and outdoor Conference USA champion in the shot put each year. His efforts helped Memphis capture conference titles both years at the school.
He graduated from the University of Memphis in 2008 and went on to serve as a throws coach at Morgan State in Baltimore, MD during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. He helped Allison Randall become the first Morgan State thrower to qualify for the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Nationals. She later went on to compete for Jamaica in the Olympics.
Edwards Jr. previously spent six years as the throws coach for the Winfield (KS) High School track and field teams. During his time at Winfield, he coached 14 state qualifiers and seven state medalists.
He and his wife, Stephanye, have a daughter, Marion 16 and three pitbull dogs.
