Lady Tigers split a pair of home basketball games

Hosting the Cowley Classic Friday and Saturday inside W.S. Scott Auditorium, the Cowley College women's basketball team split a pair of games. The Lady Tigers opened the Classic with a 63-47 win over the Tabor College JV on Friday before falling to Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa by a score of 76-69 on Saturday.

Cowley is now 2-1 on the season.

"We were not great either day, but I thought we competed hard," Cowley head coach Todd Clark said.

On Friday, Cowley led the Tabor College JV 19-1 after one quarter of play and took a comfortable 30-12 lead into halftime.

After going 0-for-11 shooting from the floor in the opening quarter, the Lady Bluejays began to heat up. Tabor went 7-of-9 from three-point range in the third quarter and used a 20-4 run to pull within 34-32.

Holding onto a 41-37 advantage, Cowley would close the quarter on an 11-1 run to regain some breathing room.

Cowley would score the first eight points of the fourth quarter as they led by as many as 22 points in the 16-point win.

Sophomore Carson Dean's double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds led the Lady Tigers. Freshman Brooke Perez added 12 points and six rebounds, while Gracie Gilpin chipped in with 10 points and four steals.

Jenna Uehling went 4-of-6 from three-point range and led Tabor with 16 points.

The Lady Tigers returned to the court on Saturday to face a Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa squad that narrowly defeated Allen Community College on Friday by a score of 57-54.

Saturday's contest featured five ties and six lead changes. The score was tied at 17-17 after one quarter of play, and the Lady Mavericks held a slim 32-30 halftime lead.

Jordan Holman, a 5'10 sophomore from Hugo, OK, scored 13 third-quarter points to help NOC take a 52-49 lead into the final quarter of play.

Holman would score 10 more points in the fourth quarter as she finished with 33 points and 16 rebounds in the seven-point win.

"We did not rebound when we had the opportunity and have got to get better defensively," Clark said.

Allison Green also added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Baylee Fincher led Cowley with 18 points and eight rebounds. Dean and Gilpin joined Fincher in double figures with 17 and 13 points, respectively.

NOC out-shot Cowley 48.3 percent to 29.9 percent. The teams will face each other again on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in Tonkawa, OK.

"This will be a good test to see what we have learned," Clark said.
