Lady Tigers slip to fifth place after day three of national tourney

After advancing each of its singles players and doubles teams to the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Division I Women's National Tennis Championship in Tucson, AZ, the Cowley College women's tennis team found wins hard to come by on Tuesday as they had just one doubles team and two singles players advance to the semifinals.

Tyler Junior College (TX) and Hillsborough Community College (FL) are currently tied for first place at the national championship with 36 team points. Seward County is third with 33 points, while St. Petersburg College (FL) is just ahead of the Lady Tigers with 32 points.

On Monday, Cowley (30 points) got wins from its No. 3 and No. 4 singles players, Mariia Koroleva and Saara Kunakunova, while its No. 3 doubles team of Kunakunova and Valentina Jimenez also advanced to Tuesday's semifinal round.

Cowley's top-two doubles teams battled hard before losing three-set matches on Monday.
