Nine Tiger athletic programs earn Academic Team Awards

The most successful NJCAA programs in the classroom this year were recently recognized with the announcement of the 2019-20 NJCAA Academic Teams of the Year. For the second year in a row, Cowley College had nine athletic programs earn recognition by assembling a 3.0 grade point average or higher.

The women's tennis team led the way with a 3.44 GPA, while the men's tennis team finished with a 3.30 GPA. The Tiger baseball team had a 3.28 GPA, while volleyball (3.24), men's cross country (3.23), women's cross country (3.22), and softball (3.21) were right behind. The Cowley College women's soccer team (3.10) and men's indoor track and field team (3.07) were also honored for their stellar work in the classroom.

"I am very proud of our student athletes and their commitment to academic success," Cowley College athletic director Shane Larson said. "To see so many teams and individuals thrive in unprecedented times, having seasons cancelled and classes moved to virtual formats is very telling of the quality of our student athlete.I would like to thank the Cowley faculty for their support and dedication to their students during the spring semester. It was a very difficult time and a part of our student athletes' academic success is because of the outstanding quality of instruction provided by our faculty here at Cowley. It was definitely a team effort and as always when Cowley College groups come together success normally follows.Congratulations again to our student athletes and coaches and we are looking forward to seeing our teams back on campus in August."
