Cowley awards April and May Athletes of the Month

With the school year winding down, Cowley College recently announced its final Athletes of the Month for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Lady Tiger volleyball player Maddy Pitts and men's basketball player Shemarri Allen were named April Athletes of the Month. While, softball pitcher Brooke Mason and cheer squad member Andrew Burgos were named May Athletes of the Month.

Maddy Pitts, a general studies in STEM Pathway major, has a 3.72 grade point average. She was named an Honorable Mention all-conference selection and Second Team All-District as a member of the Lady Tiger volleyball team. Pitts finished conference play with eight double-digit kill performances, including a career-high 17 kills against Highland. She finished her freshman year with 210 kills.

Shemarri Allen, a sports management/sports administration major, has a 3.54 GPA. The Honorable Mention all-conference selection helped the Tiger men's basketball team to its first Region VI title in 64 years and a berth in the national tournament. Allen averages 11.6 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game.

Brooke Mason, a business administration major has a 3.83 GPA. She currently leads the No. 14-ranked Lady Tiger pitching staff with 12 wins and a 2.31 earned run average.

Andrew Burgos, a mass communication major, has a 2.74 GPA. At Cowley he is a member of the Cheer team, is a Student Ambassador, member of the Media Club, basketball team manager, and sports editor for the Cowley Press. He was recently named Homecoming King at Cowley College and was the national champion in the college mascot division.
