Cowley College places fourth in NATYCAA Cup standings

With one national championship, three national runner-up finishes, and several top-20 performances, Cowley College was recently recognized for its athletic success by finishing fourth in the Daktronics NATYCAA Cup standings. More than 200 community colleges figured in the scoring.

For an unprecedented 12th time, Iowa Central Community College placed first in the Daktronics Cup, followed by Iowa Western, while Barton Community College finished just ahead of the Tigers in third place.

Cowley College athletic director Jason O'Toole said Cowley has a rich athletic tradition that is confirmed by its strong NATYCAA Cup rankings each year.

"Finishing fourth this year is a testament to the commitment and dedication of all of Cowley's stakeholders," O'Toole said. "Our coaches and student-athletes are winners." 

Cowley was led by its men's cross country team capturing the NJCAA Division II championship, while baseball and men's tennis finished as national runners-up at the NJCAA Division I national championships, and volleyball was the national runner-up at the DII championship.

Other sports to do well on the national stage were women's cross country (fourth in DII), women's tennis (fifth), men's soccer (sixth), women's outdoor track and field (10th), women's indoor track and field (14th), wrestling (14th place), men's indoor track and field (18th), and men's outdoor track and field (22nd).
