Mike Wright, an all-conference kicker for the Cowley College football team and the holder of five school records, was honored for his accomplishments by being posthumously inducted into the Tiger Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, January 29.

Wright, who sadly passed away in 2007, played football at Cowley during the 1977 and 1978 seasons.

His sophomore season in 1978 he helped the Tigers to one of their most successful seasons in the history of the program. The Tigers went 7-3 with two of its three losses coming by a combined nine points. He was selected as a Jayhawk Conference First-Team selection following the 1978 season.

Wright is the school-record holder in field goals made in a season (nine), field goals made in a game (three), most point after conversions in a season (22), most points scored by a kicker in a game (13), and most points scored by a kicker in a season (49).

Cowley Hall of Fame football coach, Jerry Boyce, coached Wright during the 1978 season.

"Mike was a good kid and it is a well deserved honor for him to be selected for the Hall of Fame," Boyce said.

After Cowley, Wright signed a letter of intent to play baseball at Kansas State University.

He was employed at Cain's Coffee Company at the time of his death.

His son, Kyle Wayne Wright, will turn 30 on the day of his father's Hall of Fame induction. His wife, Debbie, will also be in attendance.

"It's going to be a very special day and I know that Mike will be smiling down on us," Debbie Wright said.
