Tigers run win-streak to 13 with non-conference victory over Rose State

After homering just once in his first 109 at bats on the season, Cowley College sophomore third baseman Trey DeGarmo homered for the third straight game to help lift the No. 6-ranked Tiger baseball team to an 8-6 win over Rose State College Tuesday in Arkansas City.

After 1,257 wins as an assistant coach at Cowley, Tuesday's victory was the 100th as a head coach in the illustrious career of Darren Burroughs.

"This means I have been surrounded by a lot of good players and coaches," Burroughs said. "The guys did a good job of battling back and getting the win."

DeGarmo's recent power surge has helped Cowley run its winning streak to 13 games as the Tigers are now 38-7 on the season.

"Trey is a strong kid and has been letting his swing take care of things and is not trying to do too much," Burroughs said.

With both teams using six pitchers in the mid-week game, Cowley benefitted from eight walks by Raider pitching.

There were three lead changes and two ties through the first seven and a half innings as Rose State went on top 6-5 thanks to an unearned run in the top of the eighth inning.

However, the Tigers answered back in the bottom half of the inning. Cowley would regain the lead by scoring three runs despite getting only one, Haden O'Toole single, in the inning. Two walks, a hit batter, and a pair of passed balls helped Cowley go back on top.

Carlton Perkins, the sixth Tiger pitcher used, stranded a pair of runners in a scoreless ninth inning to earn the win.

Bryce Madron and Conner Gore had two hits a piece for the Tigers and shortstop David Herring drove in three runs.

Rose State is now 10-29 on the season.

Cowley will open a four-game series against Butler Community College (28-18) by playing a doubleheader in El Dorado Thursday beginning at 1 p.m. The teams will conclude the series be playing a pair of games in Arkansas City Saturday at 1 p.m.

"This will be an opportunity for us to face another good team," Burroughs said. "It will be a tough series, but we are looking forward to the challenge."
