Tigers dominate Seward 10-0 in Region VI opener

The top-seeded Cowley College baseball team got off to the start they wanted in the Region VI Tournament as they run-ruled 16th-seeded Seward County 10-0 Wednesday at the Tiger Baseball Field.

The Tigers lead the best-of-three series 1-0 heading into Thursday's game in Arkansas City at 2 p.m.

Cowley is now 45-9 on the season, while Seward falls to 14-41.

On Wednesday, Cowley broke the game open by scoring four runs in the bottom of the third inning. First baseman Conner Gore started the fun with a two-run single, while David Herring and Ty Hammack added run scoring singles in the inning. Gore would cap a three-run seventh inning by singling home Janson Reeder with the game's final run.

Batting in the cleanup spot, Gore led Cowley's 14-hit attack by going 4-for-5 with a double and four runs batted in as he raised his average to .380 on the season.

"Conner got the job done. He needs to be able to do that batting in that spot of the lineup," Cowley head coach Darren Burroughs said.

The top-seven batters in the Tigers' lineup combined to go 13-of-26 with nine runs batted in. Designated hitter Logan Vaughan went 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Bryce Madron and Trey DeGarmo added two hits apiece.

"It was a total team effort and a good win," Burroughs said.

Sophomore pitcher Grant Adler went all seven innings on the mound, striking out six and allowing only three hits in the 10-0 win. Adler is now 11-0 with a 2.37 earned run average on the season and 18-0 in his Tiger career.

"Grant pitched it well," Burroughs said.

Seward starting pitcher Mason Martinez allowed 11 hits and seven runs in six innings pitched as he fell to 1-9 on the season.
