The Tigers won a school-record 18 games in a row before losing at the NJCAA Division I National Tournament in Tyler, TX. Cowley won its second straight conference title by a whopping four games and defeated Coffeyville 3-1 to win the Plains District Championship.
This success led to them having the Jayhawk West Co-Players of the Year in forward Caique Trivelato (20 goals) and midfielder Takeru Moriyama (five assists). Cowley also had the Co-Defensive Players of the Year in Pedro Arcoverde and Luis Rodrigues, while Ruy Vaz was named the Coach of the Year for the fourth straight season.
"I am fortunate to have Tanner Brock with me as my assistant and look at this as a Staff of the Year Award," Vaz said.
All totaled, Cowley had seven players named First Team all-conference and midfielder Mateo Jimenez (five assists) was named to the Second Team.
Along with Trivelato, Moriyama, Arcoverde and Rodrigues (four goals), midfielder Masaya Sekiguchi (nine goals, 11 assists), defender Leonardo Palmieri (seven assists), and goalkeeper Rafael Furlani (0.85 goals against average) were also named First Team all-conference performers.
"This recognition shows how much the other coaches in the conference think of our players," Vaz said. "These guys were phenomenal on and off the field and were leaders for our team."
