Bio

Todd Clark, the all-time winningest basketball coach in Lady Tiger history, begins his 20th season as head women’s basketball coach at Cowley.

Clark has compiled a record of 428-178 in his 19 seasons as head coach of the Lady Tigers. He helped guide Cowley to an undefeated conference championship in his first season as coach and has a 71 percent career winning percentage at the school. With Clark at the helm, Cowley achieved 20 or more wins in a school record 14 straight years as the team finished 20-12 during the 2019-2020 season despite finishing the season with no sophomores on the roster.

With the shortened 2021 season, Cowley had its streak of 20-win seasons come to a halt. However, the team still managed to go 15-9 and host a Region VI playoff game. Two seasons ago, Cowley won a home playoff game and finished just one win shy of the 20-win plateau (19-12).

This past season, Cowley had its ups and downs while finishing with a record of 15-16.

Prior to all of this, Cowley went 24-8 during the 2018-19 campaign and placed second in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division, earning Clark Co-Coach of the Year honors in the Jayhawk East. He helped Cowley go 26-7 during the 2017-18 season, 24-9 during the 2016-17 season, and the 2015-16 team qualify for the NJCAA Division I National Tournament for the first time since 1989 when the squad finished with a record of 27-8.

Clark helped Cowley finish the 2014-15 season with a record of 24-8 and the 2013-14 season with a record of 22-9 overall, while the 2012-13 team finished 29-5 overall and 16-2 in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division. The Lady Tigers advanced to the Region VI championship game before having its season come to an end.

Prior to that, Clark guided the Lady Tigers to the Jayhawk East title and was named the conference’s Coach of the Year during the 2010-2011 season. The Coach of the Year award was Clark’s second during his time at the school, as Cowley finished that season with a record of 25-8 overall and 16-2 in the conference.

Clark served as an assistant coach on the Lady Tiger coaching staff from 1997-2000. During his time as Darin Spence’s top assistant, Cowley produced an outstanding 91-9 record, along with four Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division championships.

After his first coaching stint at Cowley, Clark went on to serve as the top assistant coach at NCAA Division I University of Texas-San Antonio. During his two years at UTSA, he helped turn the program around from seven wins in 1999-2000 to 16 wins in both the 2000-2001 and 2001-2002 seasons and a third-place finish in the Southland Conference.

Clark began his college coaching career as the head women’s coach at Kansas Newman University from 1989-1993 and has held assistant coaching positions at fellow Jayhawk Conference schools, Pratt Community College and Colby Community College. Clark, a 1986 graduate of Kansas Wesleyan University, holds a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education and received his master’s degree in 1996 from Wichita State University in Sports Administration.

Clark and his wife, Candy have two sons, Cevin and Cadon.
