Tiger wrestlers get off to a strong start
Opening the season at the Friends University Falcon Invite Saturday in Wichita, the Cowley College wrestling team had some solid performances.
The Tigers were led by freshman Melton Powe placing second in the 174-pound weight class, while fellow freshman Andrew Powell placed third at 184 pounds. Cowley was competing against wrestlers from 25 schools.
"We wrestled very well and had multiple people place and wrestle deep into the tournament," Cowley interim head coach Justice Circle said. "We scored a lot of bonus points collectively as a team."
Cowley will look to build off its season-opening performance when they kick off the dual portion of its schedule with a match at NJCAA Division II Newman University Wednesday at 7 p.m.
"I am happy where we are at right now, we have work to do for sure, but we are definitely going in the right direction," Circle said. "We are looking forward to opening the dual season at Newman. They have a decent team, and we are excited for it."
