Tiger wrestlers come up just short in season-opening dual

Taking part in its first dual of the season, the Cowley College wrestling team lost at NCAA Division II Newman University 25-21 Wednesday in Wichita, KS.

Cowley held an early lead after winning two of the first three matches before Newman won six of the next seven to pull out the close victory. Cowley's wins came from Aidan O'Dell (133 pounds), Trenton Grant (141 pounds), Lewis Caples (197 pounds), and Dean Setticase (285 pounds).

"We wrestled well in some spots against a veteran Newman team," Cowley interim head coach Justice Circle said. "We make no excuses and take the loss on the chin, but we have to do the little things right.

Cowley will not wrestle again until Saturday, November 19, at 9 a.m., when they compete at the University of Nebraska Kearney Open.

"We are a better team than the result against Newman," Circle said. "It's a long season; this is only the beginning."
