Cowley knocks off the No. 5-ranked team while going 3-1 at Jayhawk Duals

The Cowley College wrestling team put it all together Sunday afternoon at the Jayhawk Duals held in Salina, KS. The Tigers went 3-1 and knocked off No. 5-ranked Northwest Kansas Tech as they placed fourth in the conference.

Cowley opened with a 28-23 win over the fifth-ranked Mavericks before dropping a close match against Cloud County (26-21). The Tigers would bounce back to defeat Colby 33-19 and Barton 41-18.

Cowley interim head coach Justice Circle was pleased with how his team bounced back from a tough home loss to Labette on Thursday.

"We had a great showing and came out hot, upsetting the No. 5 team in the country," Circle said. "A lot of guys stepped up and beat ranked guys. It was a good dual tournament for us."

Cowley was led by Aidan O'Dell (133 pounds), Trenton Grant (141 pounds), Melton Powe (174 pounds), and Dean Setticase (285 pounds), going 4-0 at the tournament.

Cowley will now turn its attention to the MVC Open held Saturday, February 4, at 9 a.m. in Marshall, MO.
