Lady Tiger soccer team earns first road win of the season

Scoring four goals over the final 28 minutes of Saturday's game at Kansas City Kansas Community College, the No. 12-ranked Cowley College women's soccer team broke a 1-1 tie and defeated the Blue Devils 5-1.

The victory snapped a two-game losing streak for the Lady Tigers and improved their record to 4-2 overall and 1-2 in the Jayhawk Conference Western Division.

"Our players were determined to break our two-game losing streak and were able to control the game in the first half," Cowley head coach Roberto dos Santos said. "We scored a first-half goal but couldn't finish other opportunities."

Cowley started fast on Saturday as Lea Evin scored off an assist from Lucia Rivas only nine minutes into the contest. Kansas City's Mia Hurt would tie the game at 1-1 by scoring midway through the opening half.

The game would remain tied until 17 minutes into the second half when Cowley got the go-ahead goal from Lina Fasquelle. Only two minutes later, the Lady Tigers added to their lead on a goal by Kayleigh Mack.

Ada Ronnemaa added two goals in the final 10 minutes to cap the big second half and 5-1 win.

"In the second half, our team took control again, but this time it was determined to finish its opportunities," dos Santos said. "It was a great result on the road."

Alba Lopez started in goal for the Lady Tigers and stopped four of the five shots she faced.
Kansas City is now 3-3-1 overall and 2-3 in the Jayhawk East.

Cowley will look to make it two wins in a row when they host No. 20 ranked Hutchinson Community College Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Blue Dragons are 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the Jayhawk West.

"We will regroup and focus on another tough match versus Hutchinson," dos Santos said.
