Lady Tiger soccer team takes frustration out on Garden City

Having suffered through three tough defeats against some of the best teams in the Jayhawk Conference, the Cowley College women's soccer team got a reprieve from its challenging schedule by getting to host last-place Garden City Saturday in its final regular season home game. The Lady Tigers scored five first-half goals and cruised to the 5-0 win.

Cowley is now 8-7 overall and 5-7 in the Jayhawk Conference Western Division. Garden City (6-12-1) falls to 1-11-1 in the conference.

"This was a great win. The team started the game with intensity and controlled the possessions," Cowley head coach Roberto dos Santos said. "We were able to finish lots of opportunities."

The goals came from five different players as Lea Evin, Angela Gatto, Gabrielle Oliveira, Jessica Meira, and Nanaka Inaba scored in the win. With the comfortable lead, dos Santos was able to empty his bench.

"We played every player. It was a great day for the amazing sophomores we have on the team," dos Santos said. "They worked hard to keep the Cowley tradition."

Kanon Dehama stopped the only shot she faced as the Lady Tigers recorded their fourth shutout of the season.

Cowley will play at Dodge City Wednesday at 5 p.m. The Lady Conquistadors are 5-8-1 on the season.

"Dodge will be another tough trip, but we are looking forward to putting on a good show," dos Santos said.
