Volleyball goes 4-0 at Ramada Inn Classic in Nebraska

Using a balanced attack, the No. 2-ranked Cowley College volleyball team went 4-0 at the Ramada Inn Classic played Friday and Saturday in Columbus, NE.

Cowley opened play on Friday with a 25-15, 25-16, 25-12 win over Northeast (NE) Community College before defeating North Platte (NE) 25-10, 25-15, 25-21. The Lady Tigers would return to action on Saturday and knocked off Southeast Community College (NE) 25-9, 25-14, 25-16 before wrapping up play with a 25-20, 25-14, 25-20 victory over Central Nebraska.

Cowley, winners of five matches in a row, is now 26-2 on the season.

"We played up to our standards, and our speed caused problems for all four teams," Cowley head coach Steven Gream said. "

Freshman Anna Kiss had a pair of double-doubles in the wins on Friday, and sophomore Laci Beougher added her first career double-double against Southeast Community College while finishing with a team-high 49 kills in the four matches.

Kiss added 40 kills and 31 digs on the weekend, while sophomores Gyongyver Araczki (38 kills) and Rachele Tessari (34 kills) also led the team in hitting.

"We had really good balance and hitting percentages, which aided our scoring runs," Gream said.

Vivianna Solis, who surpassed 1,000 assists on the season, had 30 or more assists and a double-double in each match, and Sydney Unruh recorded double digits in digs in all four contests.

"Sydney made some huge plays for us with her defense and presence on the court," Gream said. "Vivianna is one of the top setters in the nation and continues to do a good job creating scoring opportunities for us."

Cowley will return home to face Labette Community College Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. Tiger fans are asked to wear pink at Wednesday's home match in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness. Labette is 6-17 on the season.

"We will not overlook Labette with it being a conference match," Gream said. "We hope to play well and take care of business in advance of a big weekend tournament in Iowa."
