Cowley improves to 31-3 with thrashing of Coffeyville

The No. 3 ranked Cowley College Volleyball team continued its great season with a 25-15, 25-16, 25-16 victory over Coffeyville Wednesday in Coffeyville, Kansas.

Cowley improves its record to 31-3 overall and 7-1 in the Jayhawk Conference Easter Division, while Coffeyville falls to 24-8 and 4-4 in the conference. 

"We balanced our attack and served aggressive to cause problems for their defense. This, combined with our defense, allowed us to go on multiple runs for the 3-0 win," head coach Steven Gream said. 

Cowley finished with 43 kills in the match while hitting a .323 hitting percentage. Gyongyver Araczki led the team with 13 kills while hitting a team high .632. Landry Cate followed with 10 kills and Laci Beougher added 9 kills. Vivianna Solis set the table for all the hitters with her 30 assists in the match. 

"Our middles Landry Cate and Gyongyver Araczki really put a lot of pressure on Coffeyville, which opened up our other hitters for more open swings. Balancing the attack was huge for the match and our middles played a huge part of that," Gream said. 

Cowley will have a quick turn around as they will play in a tri-match Saturday, October 22 against host Cisco College (20-11) at 11:00 am and Rose State (7-16) at 1:00 p.m. 

"We played Cisco earlier in the season and we look for them to have made some changes and adjustments since then. We have to make sure we are prepared for that, especially in front of their home. Rose State is a district team that we will get our first look at and so we have to make sure we do what we do and adjust to what they are doing on the court," Gream said.
