Tiger baseball team blasts Seminole 15-2

The No. 12-ranked Cowley College baseball team ventured out of conference to play rival Seminole State College (OK) Tuesday in Arkansas City. The Tigers enjoyed the break from conference play as they feasted off Trojan pitching in the 15-2 run-rule win.

Cowley improved its record to 13-2 at home as they are now 24-6 on the season.

Seminole (17-17) entered Tuesday's contest having won nine of its past 10 games. However, Trojan starting pitcher Luke Smith retired only one of the eight batters he faced in a six-run first inning for the Tigers.

"We had some good at bats early in the game," Cowley head coach Darren Burroughs said.

Cowley would continue to pour it on by scoring eight runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sophomore shortstop David Herring homered to lead off the inning, while Krew Taylor and Logan Vaughan delivered two-run singles in the eight-run fourth.

Cowley out-hit Seminole 13-4 and also took advantage of 10 walks by Trojan pitching. Freshman second baseman Conner Gore went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in, while Logan Vaughan and Carson Hunt combined to go 4-for-4 with five runs scored and five RBI.

"We had a lot of good swings up and down the lineup," Burroughs said.

Jerome Tylicki started on the mound for Cowley and pitched a scoreless first inning before giving way to freshman Brigden Parker, who allowed just one hit in two scoreless innings.

"It was good to get Tylicki back on the mound and I thought Brigden threw the ball really well," Burroughs said.

Blake Priest and Carlton Perkins also pitched well, combining for five strikeouts in two spotless innings of relief.

Cowley will open a four-game series against Fort Scott by playing a doubleheader at Fort Scott Thursday at 1 p.m. The Greyhounds are currently 21-11 overall and 9-3 in the Jayhawk East.

"It will be a tough series," Burroughs said. "It is supposed to be cold and windy Thursday, so we will have to match their intensity and play well."
