Cowley hits six home runs while completing a sweep of Neosho County

The No. 19-ranked Cowley College baseball team completed a four-game sweep of Neosho County by defeating the Panthers 8-2 and 17-7 Saturday afternoon in Arkansas City. The Tigers belted six home runs in the two games to remain tied for first place in the conference with Johnson County.

"It was a good sweep," Cowley head coach Darren Burroughs said. "It was a hitter's day, and we swung the bat well."

Cowley is now 30-12 overall and 18-2 in the Jayhawk Conference Eastern Division, while Neosho County falls to 28-15 overall and 14-10 in the conference.

In Saturday's first game, Tiger shortstop Jadyn McNealy went 4-for-4 with a home run and two runs batted in. Keaton Campbell added his second home run of the series, and Cowley cruised to the 8-2 win.

Luke Singleton went the first three innings for the Tigers, allowing one run on five hits. Delton Roberts (1-0) followed with four solid innings of relief, striking out six and walking none while allowing only four hits and one run.

Neosho's Jaret Myers (5-3) was tagged for 11 hits and eight runs in four innings.

Dane Harvey got the scoring started for the Tigers in game two with a three-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. Alex Conover added a pair of homers, while Campbell had three hits and hit his third home run of the series.

Conover now leads Cowley with 11 home runs, while Harvey and Campbell have eight and six home runs, respectively.

"It was good to see different guys step up throughout the series," Burroughs said.

Mitchell Johnson started on the mound for Cowley and went 2 2/3 innings. Tallen Bagwell (2-1), the third of five Tigers to pitch in game two, earned the win with 2 2/3 innings of relief.

Neosho starting pitcher Cameron Robertson (4-2) allowed nine runs in two innings pitched.

Cowley will play a single, nine-inning game at Barton (29-14) on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Great Bend before returning home to face Fort Scott (35-8) in a doubleheader on Thursday at 1 p.m.

"We hope to see guys continue to step up," Burroughs said.
