Nwankwo, Mbengue named February Athletes of the Month

Cowley College basketball players Jeff Nwankwo and Ndack Mbengue were recently named Cowley College's February Male and Female Athletes of the Month.

Nwankwo is coming off a career-high 37-point performance in an 81-65 road win at Butler Community College. The sophomore has scored more than 20 points in six straight contests and has helped the No. 11-ranked Tigers to a record of 26-4 overall. Cowley finished second in the Jayhawk Conference with a record of 21-3 and earned the second seed in the Region VI Playoffs.

Nwankwo averages 18.4 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. The psychology major has a grade point average of 3.21.

Mbengue was recently named the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Player of the Week after averaging 29.5 points and 21 rebounds in a pair of Lady Tiger victories. She has grabbed 24 rebounds in a game twice this season and has helped Cowley win four of its past five games by averaging 12.7 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.

The recently crowned Homecoming Queen is majoring in business administration and has a GPA of 3.94.
