Tiger tennis team knocks off another solid NCAA Division II opponent

The Cowley College men's tennis team, the top-ranked team in all of NJCAA Division I, improved its record to 4-1 against NCAA Division II schools with a 6-1 victory at Northwest Missouri State University on Friday in Maryville, MO.

The Bearcats, which entered Friday's match ranked No. 33 in the latest NCAA Division II rankings, opened play against the Tigers by winning two of three doubles matches. However, it was all Cowley in singles play, as the Tigers won all six singles matches and dropped only one set in the process.

Cowley's lone doubles win came from the No. 3 doubles tandem of Sergio Gonzalez and Omar Suarez. While sophomores Bruno Nhavene and Reiya Komagata continue to lead the way at the top of the singles lineup.

"The guys did a really good job in singles, dominating in all six spots," Cowley head coach Arianna Raga said. "Every match gives us an opportunity to see what we need to improve before nationals."

Cowley will attempt to win its fourth match in a row when they face No. 4-ranked Barton County on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Great Bend, KS.

"We will continue to work hard this week to get ready and play Barton," Raga said.
