Tigers establish several personal best marks at Mike Kirkland SC Relays

Taking part in its final competition leading up to this weekend's Region VI/Jayhawk Conference Outdoor Championships, the Cowley College men's and women's track and field teams had several individuals establish personal bests at the Mike Kirkland Southwestern College Relays held Saturday in Winfield, KS.

"Southwestern was our last little tune-up before championship season for most, and for some, it may have been a deciding factor on whether they will be in our top 3 and competing at regionals," Cowley head coach Cameron Rieth said.

Lady Tiger freshman Isabella Kupka won the women's 400-meter dash with a time of 57.54.

"Izzy looks to have bounced back from being sick, and she crushed the 400-meter," Rieth said.

Fellow Lady Tigers Genesis Bautista placed second in the long jump, while Mercedes Glover won her second consecutive pole vault event. Abby Rueschhoff also placed first in the triple jump by tying her personal best in the event (36-0 ¼). McKenna Markle also had a big weekend and established a personal best of 138-8 in the hammer.

The Tiger men were led by numerous individuals setting personal best times in the 1,500-meter run.

The Cowley College men's and women's outdoor track and field teams will try to repeat as conference champions as they prepare to compete in Coffeyville Friday and Saturday at 9 a.m.
