Sprints, jumps athletes lead Cowley track and field performances

The Cowley College men's and women's track and field teams recently competed at the Friends University Spring Open. The three-day meet was held Thursday through Saturday in Wichita, where there were high winds and smoke in the air due to field burnings.

"We had one heck of a weekend despite the weather," Cowley head coach Cameron Rieth said. "Especially from the sprints and jumps side of things. Riley Hunter (men's pole vault) and Victor Morfin (men's high jump) won their event and threw down big personal bests. Both of them are ranked fifth in the nation in their respective events. Randall Coble also had a great weekend in the men's pole vault, tying for second place while setting a big personal best in the event."

Cowley sophomore Jacob Creswell also performed well and hit the national qualifying mark in the hammer.

"Jacob has been within a meter of qualifying since the year's first meet. He has earned that personal best and his ticket to Louisiana," Rieth said.

The Lady Tiger track and field team was led by Isabella Kupka, who placed third in the 200-meter dash and fifth in the 400-meter dash. Riannon St. Clair (women's high jump) and Kennedy Kizarr (women's pole vault) also performed well and placed fifth in their events.

The Tiger outdoor track and field teams will return to action on Friday and Saturday when participating in the KT Woodman Relays hosted by Wichita State University. The competition on Friday begins at 5 p.m., and Saturday's events will start at 10 a.m.
