Cowley softball team picks up a pair of home wins

Getting home runs from Sophomore Andrea Kaffure in each game of a doubleheader played Wednesday against Haskell College, the Cowley College women's softball team defeated the Indians 9-4 and 5-0 in games played at Ed Hargrove Field in Arkansas City.
The victories improve Cowley's record to 17-8.
In game one, Haskell scored four runs off five hits in the top of the third inning. However, that would be all the runs they would score on the day as Lady Tiger starting pitcher Micah Vann (8-3) settled down on the mound.
Trailing 4-0, Cowley got a run-scoring single from Lyric Perry in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Lady Tigers would score five runs in the fourth inning, with the big blow being a three-run home run by Kaffure that put Cowley in front 6-4.
The Lady Tigers would scratch across a seventh run in the fifth inning before Perry belted a two-run homer in the sixth to cap the scoring. The homer was the second of the season for Perry.
"I was looking for a spark from the bottom of our lineup, and I thought they did a great job executing with runners on base," Cowley head coach Jenny Hoyt said.
In game two, Kaffure homered for the second time in the doubleheader and the fourth time this season. This time, it was a two-run shot in the bottom of the second inning. Jamie Molina added a solo home run, her fourth of the season, in the third inning, and Cowley cruised to the 5-0 win.
"Andrea had a really productive day for the team and had some huge at-bats," Hoyt said.
Jaiden Swanson tossed six scoreless innings to improve her record to 8-4, while Kaitlynn Anderson tossed a scoreless inning of relief in each game of the doubleheader.
Cowley will play a doubleheader at Northern Oklahoma College-Enid today at 1 p.m. The Lady Jets have lost four games in a row and are 8-10 on the season.
