Fearon, Davis crowned region wrestling champs

Led by Chance Davis and Stefaan Fearon, who were named Region Champions, the Cowley College wrestling team had seven wrestlers qualify for Nationals while competing at the NJCAA South Central District Qualifier held Saturday in Great Bend, KS.

Davis was also awarded Wrestler of the Year in the Jayhawk Conference and Wrestler of the Year in the region.

"This is the first time this has happened in program history to have two region champs and a Wrestler of the Year," Cowley head coach Justice Circle said. ". He pinned Pratt's Caleb Atkins, who was unbeaten and the top-ranked kid in the country."

Along with Davis and Fearon, Cowley had additional national qualifiers in Beau Murphy, Aidan O'Dell, Ryker Agee, Jacen Jackson, and Bryce Goecher.

"We had a great tournament," Circle said. "Overall, we were dealing with some adversity throughout the tournament, and the guys overcame, and I am very proud of them.

The Tigers national qualifiers will now prepare to participate in the NJCAA Division I National Wrestling Tournament to be held March 1-2 in Council Bluffs, IA.

"This was a great weekend for the Cowley wrestling program, but this is only the beginning," Circle said. "We need to get back to work and head to Council Bluffs to keep this ball rolling."
