Lady Tigers drop season series against 17th-ranked Barton

For the second time this season, the Cowley College women's soccer team gave 17th-ranked Barton County all they could handle before losing by a score of 2-1 Wednesday in Arkansas City.

Cowley is now 7-5 overall and 4-5 in the Jayhawk West. Barton (13-2) maintains a half-game lead over Hutchinson Community College for first place in the conference with a record of 9-1.

Just 8:22 into the contest, Nina Norshie scored her 37th goal of the season to give the Lady Cougars a 1-0 lead. The score would remain that way until Cowley freshman Lea Evin scored off an assist from Lina Fasquelle with 26:53 left to play. The goal by Evin ties Fasquelle for the team lead in goals with five.

However, six minutes later, Barton's Rin Santo's through ball got by the Lady Tiger defense, and Ivanna Faria sent what turned out to be the game-winning goal into the back of the net.

Cowley will face another stiff test when they host Coffeyville Saturday at 2 p.m. The Lady Red Ravens are 10-4-1 on the season.
