A Pair of Lady Tiger soccer players sign with NCAA schools

Having helped lead the Cowley College women's soccer team to its first-ever region title and victory at the national tournament, sophomore midfielder Laura Pouedras and defender Nella Nevalainen recently signed letters of intent to continue their soccer careers at four-year schools.

Midfielder Laura Pouedras signed with NCAA Division I Southern Utah University, and Lady Tiger defender Nella Nevalainen signed with Emmanuel University in Franklin Springs, GA.

"I am very happy for them," Cowley head coach Roberto dos Santos said. "These two are great examples of what a student-athlete should be like. They are both captains, and their new schools are not only getting good soccer players but great student-athletes.

Pouedras scored one goal and added five assists during the 2023 season and was named a Second Team all-conference selection.

"I improved a lot, became more mature, and developed amazing friendships," Pouedras said. "This year, we had the mentality of never stop working and we accomplished winning a region title and qualifying for nationals. I always wanted to play at the highest level, and NCAA Division I is that. I plan to work hard and give my everything for the team."

Nevalainen provided the team with stellar defense while also netting one goal and one assist.

"Cowley has been amazing," Nevalainen said. "I love the school on the field and outside of the field. Emmanuel's coach is also amazing, and I feel good about my choice to sign there."
