Unruh signs to play volleyball at Missouri Southern

Following two successful seasons as a member of the Cowley College volleyball program, Lady Tiger sophomore Sydney Unruh parlayed that success into signing a letter of intent with NCAA Division II Missouri Southern State University.

As a freshman at Cowley, Unruh recorded 238 digs, 21 assists, and 44 service aces. She took her game to another level as a sophomore, earning Second-Team all-conference honors after recording 553 digs, 44 assists, and helping Cowley (40-5) to a sixth place finish at the NJCAA Division II National Tournament.

"Two years ago, we were in search of a strong libero/defensive specialist who could be aggressive and steady on the court," Cowley head coach Steven Gream said. "The Great Bend high school coach recommended Sydney to us and we knew immediately that we wanted her to be a part of our program. She had all the aspects that we look for in a libero in addition to her calm play, drive to succeed, and love for the game. We immediately began recruiting her and were fortunate to have her as part of our program."

Unruh will join a Lions' program that competes in the always challenging Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

"Missouri Southern is getting a great volleyball player that puts the team first while also working each day to improve her game and compete at a high level," Gream said. "She was a big part of our success the past two seasons and it was a joy to see her grow in the game."
