Softball makes easy work of Central Christian JV

The Cowley College softball team ran its win-streak to four games in a row following a doubleheader sweep of the Central Christian College JV Wednesday at Ed Hargrove Field. The Lady Tigers won the opener 6-0 before run-ruling Central Christian 11-2 in the nightcap.

In Game one, sophomore Ashlynn Mercer tossed a complete game, one-hit shutout to improve her record to 4-2 on the season.

Freshman Maci Cole homered leading off the bottom of the first inning and that would be all the run support needed for Mercer. Freshman first baseman Sydney Price added a solo home run in the top of the third inning and Cowley cruised to the 6-0 win.

Taylor Mercer tossed a scoreless seventh inning to finish off the victory, while Price had three of the Lady Tigers' 10 hits. 

Cowley would go on to hit three home runs and needed only five innings to run-rule Central Christian in game two. Sophomore Tye North homered in a four-run first inning for the Lady Tigers, while Cole and Aaliyah Ahmed also homered in the win.

Cole went 3-for-3 with three runs scored, while North wen 2-for-2. Ahmed, who spent both games behind the plate, added a triple to go along with her homer and drove in four. Cole now leads Cowley with three home runs and 12 RBI, while Ahmed is second on the team with 11 runs driven in.

Freshman Kennedy Toothman went the first three innings on the mound as she evened her record at 2-2. Toothman allowed three hits and one run before being relieved by Taylor Mercer, who struck out four and allowed one run in two innings of work.

Central Christian's Madalyn Griffin allowed 11 hits and 11 runs in four innings.

Cowley is now 6-4 on the season. The Lady Tigers will now play at the Ottawa University JV Tuesday beginning at 2 p.m.
