Lady Tigers break the century mark in 101-70 road win

The Cowley College women's basketball team got scoring from every player that saw action in Wednesday's 101-70 win at Colby Community College. The 101 points were a season-high for the Lady Tigers.

After three straight losses to open the conference season, Cowley has won its past two conference games by a combined 65 points.

On Wednesday, sophomore Seanna Boltz came off the bench to score 18 of her game-high 29 points in the first half as Cowley built a 47-26 halftime lead.

"Seanna really kept us in a great spot in the first half," Cowley head coach Todd Clark said.

Boltz would finish the game 8-of-14 from three-point range and has now made 14-of-24 three-point attempts over the past two games.

"She has gotten her confidence back," Clark said.

The Lady Tigers' lead would grow to as many as 30 points (66-36) in the third quarter before settling for a 70-47 advantage heading into the final quarter of play.

Cowley would open the fourth quarter on a 13-2 run to lead 83-49 and never looked back in the 31-point road win. The Lady Tigers out-shot Colby 50.5 percent to 36.9 percent from the floor and forced the Trojans into 31 turnovers.

"Once we got going we shot it well and were good defensively," Clark said.

Freshman Martyna Kowalska had her second straight game of scoring at least 20 points as she went 8-of-9 from the floor and 4-of-4 from the free-throw line to finish with 20 points and five blocks in 22 minutes of action.

"Martyna was very efficient with the minutes she played," Clark said.

Rylee Beard and Milena Fromming added 12 and 10 points, respectively as Cowley had four players score in double figures.

Katelyn Alatini led three Colby players in double figures with 15 points on 5-of-14 shooting. The Lady Trojans are now 2-4 overall and 1-4 in the Jayhawk West.

Cowley will look to make it three wins in a row when they host Dodge City Saturday at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Conquistadors are 2-4 overall and 1-4 in the Jayhawk West following a 55-50 loss at Allen on Wednesday.
