Lady Tigers advance to second round of Region VI Tourney with 79-65 win

Not done yet! With its season on the line, the No. 8-seeded Cowley College women's basketball team knocked off No. 9-seed Pratt Community College 79-65 in the First Round of the Region VI Tournament played Monday in Arkansas City.

With the victory, Cowley has won five of its past six games and improves to 15-8 on the season. The Lady Tigers advance to play at top-seeded Hutchinson Community College on Wednesday.

On Monday, Pratt made just 3-of-18 field goal attempts in the first quarter as Cowley doubled up the Beavers 16-8. Cowley's lead would grow to 40-27 at the end of the first half thanks to limiting Pratt to 27 percent shooting.

Lady Tiger sophomore Seanna Boltz went 4-of-6 from three-point range in the third quarter as Cowley's lead grew to 61-44 heading into the final quarter of play.

"Seanna is a streaky shooter, but when she is on she is really hard to guard," Cowley head coach Todd Clark said.

Pratt opened the fourth quarter on a 10-0 run to pull within 61-54. However, following a timeout by Lady Tiger head coach Todd Clark, Cowley answered back with a 9-0 run of its own to regain control of the game.

"We got a little comfortable and lost our heads a bit, but we got more serious about things after the timeout and were finally able to finish off the game," Clark said.

Boltz finished with a game-high 22 points as she moved into 18th place on Cowley's all-time scoring list with 763 career points. Sophomore Teagan Brouwer also played well as she recorded her first career double-double, finishing with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

"Teagan was really aggressive and did a good job going after rebounds," Clark said. "I thought her teammates did a good job of finding her in the right spots."

Jaylin Taylor went 5-of-10 from three-point range and led Pratt with 19 points. The Beavers finish the season with a record of 8-14.

Cowley advances to play Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Hutchinson Community College. The Lady Blue Dragons (18-4) defeated Cowley 84-61 February 17 in Arkansas City.

"We have got to lace them up and play," Clark said. "I hope we are up for the challenge."
