Lady Tiger basketball duo signs with NCAA schools

Playing pivotal roles as members of the Cowley College women's basketball team, Lady Tiger sophomores Martyna Kowalska and Milena Fromming recently signed letters of intent to continue their playing careers at NCAA schools.

Kowalska signed with NCAA Division I Idaho State University and Fromming signed with NCAA Division II Southwest Baptist University in Bolivar, MO.

Kowalska was a two-time all-conference selection at Cowley. This past season she averaged a double-double of 14.7 points and 10.2 rebounds per game. The 6'0 sophomore also averaged 1.5 blocked shots per game.

Kowalska was just as impressive in the classroom as the Microbiology major was named the Cowley College Student of the Year.

"Martyna had a great career here," Cowley head coach Todd Clark said. "Her work ethic helped her grow as a player and become more physical her sophomore year. I know she is looking forward to the challenge and opportunity to play at Idaho State and I hope she makes her presence felt."

The Bengals went 19-12 this past season and finished as Big Sky regular season conference champions.

"After my visit, I felt Idaho State is the perfect place for me," Kowalska said. "My coaches and everyone at Cowley helped me a lot. I love Cowley and will miss it here."

Fromming, a three-year player at Cowley (due to the free COVID year), averaged 9.1 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists this past season.

"Milena took advantage of her third year at Cowley and led by example," Clark said. "I am really proud of her development and hope she can do the same for Southwest Baptist."

The Bearcats went 16-14 this past season and compete in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.

"I really enjoyed my visit to Southwest Baptist. The campus had a feeling of family," Fromming said. "When I first came to Cowley the culture was totally different. I did not know how to speak English, but I learned a lot from everyone at Cowley. I appreciate my coaches, Todd Clark and Troy Thrasher, for helping make this dream come true."
