Lady Tigers drop tough road test at Hutchinson, 91-70

Playing in one of the more difficult arenas in the conference, the Cowley College women's basketball team had its two-game winning streak halted with a 91-70 loss at Hutchinson Community College Wednesday night at the Sports Arena. The victory improved the Lady Blue Dragons' record at home to 12-0 on the season.

Hutchinson, which lost at Cowley back in November, shot 72 percent in the opening quarter (13-of-18) as they were able to solve Cowley's press, yet held just a 29-23 lead. Lady Tiger sophomore Baylee Fincher scored 10 points in the first quarter to keep Cowley within striking distance.

However, Monae Duffy, a 5'11" freshman, scored 16 first-half points to help Hutchinson open a 47-34 advantage after the first 20 minutes of play.

With Hutchinson leading 50-40, the Lady Blue Dragons would score nine straight points and stretched its lead to 70-52 heading into the fourth quarter. Cowley could not cut into the lead as they fell to 12-11 on the season and 7-9 in the Jayhawk Conference.

The Lady Tigers were led by sophomore Carson Dean's 17 points, while Fincher added 13. Jana Radovanovic came off the bench to score seven points in her 10 minutes of action.

Duffy would finish with 24 points, and seven rebounds as Hutchinson improved its record to 18-5 overall and 12-5 in the conference. Mya Williams added 17 points and seven boards for the Dragons.

Cowley will be back in action Wednesday when they host Independence at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Pirates are 11-12 overall and tied with Cowley with a record of 7-10 in the conference. Independence defeated Cowley 91-65 in the first meeting between the teams played on December 7 in Independence.
