Lady Tiger soccer All-American signs with dominant NCAA Division II school

Having helped lead the Cowley College women's soccer team to new heights, sophomore defender Elsa Pelicant recently signed a letter of intent to continue her soccer career at NCAA Division II powerhouse The College of Saint Rose in Albany, New York.

The Golden Knights (18-2-4) qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the 16th time within a 19-year span and captured their record ninth Northeast-10 conference championship this past season. Saint Rose also made its eighth NCAA Championship semifinal appearance where the Golden Knights defeated Dallas Baptist 2-1 to advance to their second championship final. Saint Rose won the title in 2011, the first team national championship in school history.

Cowley head coach Roberto dos Santos is excited for Pelicant to join another winning soccer team.

"Elsa has been a great student-athlete and huge part of our program," dos Santos said. "I have no doubt she will be successful as The College of Saint Rose is getting one of our best."

At Cowley, Pelicant was a two-time First Team all-conference selection, was a 2021 all-region selection, was named the Jayhawk Conference Western Division Defensive Player of the Year, and named a First Team All-American this past season.

Along with the stellar defense she provided the Lady Tiger soccer team with, Pelicant added six goals and four assists during the 2021 season.

"I improved a lot as a player and as a person while at Cowley," Pelicant said. "It was great to meet people from all over the world. Overall, it was a great experience."

Along with helping Cowley capture back-to-back conference titles, Pelicant helped the Lady Tiger soccer team win a school-record 15 games and advance to its first-ever District title match during the 2021 season.

The Early Childhood Education major hopes to achieve the same level of success at The College of Saint Rose.

"They play a great level of soccer and I hope to help them win a national championship," Pelicant said. "I also want to get my degree, keep improving as a soccer player, and maybe get drafted to play professionally."
