Tiger baseball team blasts Rose State 21-5

Scoring 20 or more runs for the fourth time this season and second game in a row, the No. 14-ranked Cowley College baseball team blasted Rose State College 21-5 Tuesday in Midwest City, OK.

The Tigers are now 7-2 on the season, while Rose State falls to 2-7.

Eleven of Cowley's 21 hits went for extra bases and the Tigers scored in every inning but one.

Tiger freshman Michelle Artzberger had a monster day at the plate, as he went 5-for-6 with two home runs, two doubles, and seven runs batted in to lead the Tigers at the plate. Artzberger is now batting .472 with three home runs and 21 runs batted in.

After logging only one at bat through the first eight games, freshman catcher Dalton Smith came off the bench to go 3-for-3 with a home run.

"We tried to get everybody in the game," Cowley head coach Darren Burroughs said. "It was good to play. We need to keep playing and keep improving."

Grant Adler (2-0) started on the mound for the Tigers and allowed only one run in three innings pitched. Adler did not allow a hit after the first inning and struck out six to earn his second victory of the season.

"Grant did a good job for us in a tough day to pitch, with the wind blowing out," Burroughs said.

The Tigers will remain on the road to play a doubleheader at Redlands Community College Thursday at 12 p.m.

"It will be good to go play at Redlands and hope to continue to learn how to win on the road," Burroughs said.
