Tigers take two of the first three against Indian Hills

Playing its first home games of the season, the No. 17-ranked Cowley College baseball team won two of three games against Indian Hills Community College over the weekend. The teams will wrap up the four-game series with a final game Monday at noon at the Tiger Baseball Field.

In the opener played on Saturday, four Tiger pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout in the 8-0 victory over the Warriors. Sophomore Chance Cox tossed for scoreless innings, while Chance Condit followed with three scoreless frames. Brett McComas and Luke Singleton finished off the win with scoreless innings of relief.

Sophomore left fielder Trayson Miller went 2-for-5 with three runs batted in, while Eaden Holt and Ty Hammack added two hits apiece.

The teams then met back up for a doubleheader on Sunday. Trailing 3-1, Tiger freshman Luke Shanahan homered leading off the bottom of the fourth inning. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded and two outs, Hammack cleared the bases with a three-run triple that put Cowley in front 5-3.

Cowley would add a run in the bottom of the sixth to lead 6-3. However, the Warriors rallied in the seventh thanks to a hit by pitch and three consecutive walks to bring in two runs. Freshman Logan Meyers then delivered an RBI single to tie the game at six. However, the Tigers took advantage of an error, and two base hits in the bottom half of the inning to take the walk-off victory over the Warriors. Freshman Garrett Rosenberry drove in Keaton Campbell with the winning run.

Sophomore Carlton Perkins started on the mound for the Tigers and struck out five over three innings of work. Perkins allowed two hits and two unearned runs as Cowley committed a pair of errors behind the righthander.

In Sunday's second game, Indian Hills' pitcher Andres Beltran tossed five scoreless innings while striking out seven and scattering three hits. Tiger starting pitcher Danny Satterlee was just as effective on the other side as he struck out six and allowed only two hits and no runs in four innings pitched.

The Warriors would get three straight hits off Tiger reliever Andrew Talburt, and a sacrifice fly by Luis Martinez scored Ciro Benavides with what turned out to be the game's only run in the top of the sixth inning.

Sam Hart worked around a two-out walk in the bottom of the seventh by striking out pinch hitter Cole Martin to record the save and strike out the side.

Cowley is now 5-4 on the season, while Indian Hills is 6-5.
