Butler takes mid-week contest against the Tigers 14-6

With conference games looming, the No. 20-ranked Cowley College baseball team took a break from conference play to face Butler Community College in a nine-inning game played Tuesday at the Tiger Baseball Field in Arkansas City. With the wind blowing out, Butler battered Tiger pitching in a 14-6 win.

Cowley held leads of 5-4 and 6-5 before the Grizzlies scored the game's final nine runs. Butler blasted three home runs and out-hit the Tigers 15-7. Hayden Dyer led the Grizzlies by driving in four runs, while Alan Benhardt allowed just one hit and no runs in 3 1/3 innings of relief.

Luke Singleton started on the mound for Cowley and allowed five hits and four runs in two innings pitched, while Bryson Martin allowed five hits and seven runs in three innings of relief. With the game out of reach, sophomore Haden O'Toole made his pitching debut for the Tigers in the ninth inning and struck out a pair of batters while allowing two hits and one run.

Cowley had three players with two hits apiece and were led by leftfielder Trayson Miller going 2-for-4 with a pair of runs batted in.

Cowley is now 8-7 on the season, while Butler improves its record to 10-9.

The Tigers will open a four-game series against Kansas City Kansas Community College (11-7) by playing a doubleheader at Kansas City Wednesday at 1 p.m. The teams will conclude the series by playing a doubleheader in Arkansas City Saturday at 1 p.m.
