Tigers erupt for season highs in runs and hits in win over Seminole State

Getting hits from eight of its nine position players, the Cowley College baseball team avenged an earlier loss to Seminole State College with an 18-9 victory over the Trojans Monday in Arkansas City.

Cowley trailed 3-0 before scoring five runs on five hits in the bottom of the third inning. Sophomore Ty Hammack would hit a three-run homer in a five-run fifth for the Tigers and added an RBI double in an eight-run eighth inning. Cole Martin added a two-run homer as Cowley had six hits in the inning.

Cowley (19-11) would finish with a season-high 16 hits and 18 runs as they won its fifth straight game.

"We swung the bats well and played well overall," Cowley head coach Darren Burroughs said.

Hammack finished 4-for-6 with his seventh home run and a pair of doubles as he drove in four and scored three times. Logan Vaughan added three hits and had one of Cowley's six doubles.

"We had good swings up and down the lineup," Burroughs said.

Jack Hill (1-1), the fifth Tiger pitcher used on Monday, earned the win by tossing two innings of relief. Carlton Perkins, the eighth and final pitcher used, went the final three innings and allowed only two hits and no runs.

"Carlton pitched three stress-free innings," Burroughs said.

Seminole State falls to 23-12 on the season.

Cowley will host Neosho County in a doubleheader Thursday beginning at 1 p.m. The Panthers are 23-7 overall and 9-3 in the conference.

"Neosho is having a good year and has a lot of sophomores," Burroughs said. "It is always a battle when we play them."
