Kenyeres’ goal lifts Tigers to 1-0 win over Garden City

Opening conference play Sunday at the Mark A. Phillips Athletic Complex, the No. 3-ranked Cowley College Tigers, remained unbeaten with a 1-0 win over Garden City.

The Tigers controlled the game yet went into halftime deadlocked in a scoreless tie. Cowley would out-shoot the Broncbusters 21-2 and were finally able to break through on sophomore Mate Kenyeres' goal just six minutes into the second half.

Kenyeres, who now has two goals on the season, grabbed his own rebound on a missed shot and scored what turned out to be the game-winner.

Tiger goalkeeper Kamy Ndione recorded his second shutout and the teams' third this season, as Cowley has yet to allow a goal and are now 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the Jayhawk Conference.

"It was a good win," Cowley head coach Ruy Vaz said. "We controlled the game and deserved it."

The Tigers will attempt to remain unbeaten when they make the trip to play at Seward County on Wednesday at 8 p.m. The Saints are 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference.

The next game will be a challenge because it is a long trip, but we will fight," Vaz said."
