Top-ranked Tiger tennis team opens with wins over NCAA Division II squads

Living up to its No. 1-ranking, the Cowley College men's tennis team opened the spring season by defeating Midwestern State University 4-1 Saturday in Wichita Falls, TX, before knocking off Cameron University 4-3 Sunday in Lawton, OK.

"The men continue to show toughness and got two good wins to start the season," Cowley head coach Manuel Raga said. "The team loves to win, loves to compete, and loves to work hard."

Bruno Nhavene and Boruch Skierkier each went 2-0 in singles play, while also teaming up to go 2-0 at No. 1 doubles.

"Winning the doubles National championship last fall gave them so much confidence to play their best tennis every time we compete," Raga said.

Taiyo Hirano and Hanamichi Carvajal also went 2-0 while competing at No. 3 doubles.

Cowley will now have some time off before playing at Drury University Saturday, March 4 at 12 p.m.
