Tiger tennis teams flex their muscle in wins over nationally ranked Washburn University
The strength of the Cowley College men's and women's tennis teams was on full display on Monday in Topeka, KS, as the Tiger tennis teams defeated a pair of NJCAA Division II nationally ranked squads in Washburn University.
The Tiger men, ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA Division I rankings, remained unbeaten on the season with a 6-1 win over the No. 15-ranked Ichabods.
"I am very happy with the team's performance against Washburn," Cowley head coach Manuel Raga said. "This was another important win against a team ranked in the top 20 in NCAA D2 and gives us a lot confidence, but it also reminds us we need to keep working hard to stay competitive at this level."
The No. 2-ranked Lady Tigers picked up one of their biggest wins of the season in a 4-3 victory over No. 17-ranked Washburn.
"I could not be prouder of the girls," Raga said. "They fought hard for every point and showed toughness against a top 20 NCAA D2 team."
The Tiger men will next face Wichita State University Tuesday at 4 p.m. at the Genesis Health Club in Wichita, KS. While, the Lady Tigers will return to action Friday at 2 p.m. when they play at Southwest Baptist University.
