Tiger tennis teams continue to roll with wins at Pratt
In its final matches prior to this weekend's Region Tournament, the Cowley College men and women's tennis teams took care of business in wins Saturday at Pratt Community College.
The Tiger women defeated 21st-ranked Pratt 9-0, while the Cowley men defeated the 12th-ranked Beavers 8-1.
The victory was the seventh in a row for the top-ranked Tiger men, who are now 12-1 on the season. On Saturday, Cowley mixed up its lineup and gave some younger players an opportunity to play.
"The guys have been playing rock solid the whole season and have put countless hours in the gym and on the tennis courts and it is showing every time we compete," Cowley head coach Manuel Raga said.
The second-ranked Lady Tigers, winners of nine matches in a row, improves their record to 11-4.
"I am very proud of the way the girls are performing," Raga said, "We could not be in a better position before the region tourney. We feel very confident about our game and everyone is playing their best tennis."
The Cowley tennis teams will now turn its focus to competing at the Region VI Tennis Tournament held Friday and Saturday in Great Bend, KS. Competition on both days will begin at 11 a.m.
"We are looking forward to competing in the region tourney Friday and Saturday," Raga said. "We are going to prepare really well to be ready to play our best tennis this weekend and bring home the regional championship."
