Track athletes sign with four-year schools

A trio of Cowley College track and field athletes recently signed letters of intent to continue their careers at four-year schools.

Adrian Diaz-Lopez signed with Wichita State University, Kristen Wilson signed with Sam Houston State, and Karissa Glover signed with Oklahoma Panhandle State University.

Diaz-Lopez is the defending national champion in the indoor 3000-meter run and the JUCO Division II national champion in the fall for cross country. He is the current school record holder in the indoor and outdoor 5,000-meter runs.

"Adrian has been fantastic for us," Cowley head coach Cameron Rieth said. "He rewrote the men's distance records in track. He will be in good hands at WSU, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for him."

Wilson, a freshman from Giddings, TX, is a talented distance runner that earned All-American honors in the 5,000-meter run during the indoor season.

"I am grateful for the year we got to spend with Kristen as she got exponentially better during her time here," Wilson said. "We will miss having another year with her, but hope she continues to excel in all aspects of life at Sam Houston State."

While, Glover qualified to compete at indoor nationals in the 3,000-meter run and as part of the distance medley relay team. She earned All-American honors while running as part of the 4x800-meter relay team as a freshman and also placed in the top-10 at cross country nationals each of the past two seasons as she helped the Lady Tiger cross country team to the national title in 2020.

"Karissa has been a major contributor for us and was our number one runner in cross country," Rieth said. "Oklahoma Panhandle State is close to home for her and she will be a great addition to their team."
