Three new qualifying marks achieved at the Bearcat Invitational
With the Region VI/Jayhawk Conference Championships less than two weeks away, the nationally ranked Cowley College men's and women's indoor track and field teams recently participated in the Northwest Missouri State Bearcat Invitational on Friday in Maryville, MO.
"The meet went well," Cowley head coach Cameron Rieth said. "But, we still have some areas to improve in."
Lady Tiger sophomore Cierra Gray, ranked fifth nationally in the shot put, finished third in the event as she registered the second-best mark (46-8 ¾) in the program's history. Freshman Elizabeth Brozek also performed well and hit the national qualifying mark in the pole vault with a mark of 10-6 ¼. Brozek joins Kennedy Kizarr and Dakota Dapper, who placed first in the event, as national qualifiers in the pole vault.
Brito-Hernandez (600-yard run), Dhennifer Vaz (600-yeard run and 1,000-meter run), and Karma Singleton (60-meter hurdles) were other Lady Tigers to achieve top-15 program marks while competing at Northwest Missouri State.
The Tiger men were led by Alexis Realland (1,000-meter run) and Esteban Boisseau (5,000-meter run) hitting new national qualifying marks. Both performances ranked among the top 15 marks in program history, while Boisseau's time of 4:23.30 in the mile run was the eighth fastest time run in Cowley history.
The Cowley College indoor track and field teams will compete at the Pittsburg State University Russ Jewett Gorilla Classic on Friday at 11 a.m.
